The guava tree is a tropical tree, native to Mexico and Central America. It has edible fruit that are red when ripe, but can also be yellow, orange or green. Guava trees can grow to be 25 feet tall, with a spread of up to 25 feet. The tree has small leaves that are green and oval shaped. The trunk is usually red or black in color with scaly bark that is smooth on young trees and rough on older ones. Guava trees have long shoots called suckers that develop from the roots and grow back into them after being cut off by humans or other animals. The fruit of the guava tree is a fleshy berry that grows below ground level where it forms into individual fruits called drupes which contain seeds inside them. The drupe contains many seeds surrounded by an edible pulp which people eat as part of their diet while they’re still in their pods; they then use those same pods when they’re ready to harvest them later on down the line.
