Lemon grass is a plant in the family of Daisy or Compositae. It is native to India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Lemon grass is a perennial herb that grows up to 3 feet tall and has large, grass-like leaves.
The leaves of lemon grass are used as an herbal tea, in soups and stews, as well as as a flavoring agent in many different dishes. The flower may be used as a garnish or as an ingredient in recipes like desserts, beverages and salads. Lemon grass can also be dried and ground into powder which can then be used to flavor other foods or medicines. It has been used for many years in Thai cooking as well as African, Indian, and Caribbean cuisine. Lemon grass is also considered to be an important ingredient in the herbal medicine of Thailand.
