Passion flower plants, also known as passiflora, are easy to grow and make a beautiful addition to your home or garden. They are native to the Americas, where they grow in tropical areas, but they can be grown outside in any climate zone. Passion flowers bloom in the spring and summer months, producing pink or white blossoms that can vary in size from 1/2 inch to about 2 inches across. As with many other flowering plants, passion flower plants have several different varieties of flowers: single-flowered types; double-flowered types; and hybrid varieties that combine the characteristics of both single- and double-flowered types. Though passion flower plants come in a wide variety of colors and sizes, most people select one type for their garden. The most common colors are white, pink (also known as “pink floyd”), red, yellow (also known as “yellow floyd”), orange (also known as “orange floyd”), purple (also known as “purple floyd”), and combinations thereof such as lavender/pink or lavender/red.
